Detroit Burlesque Performers Miss Holly Hock & Leena Allure will guide you through an 8 week course of burlesque instruction covering everything from how to create choreography & costuming for your first routine to how to market yourself as a performer. On the 9th week you will show what you’ve learned in a student showcase!
Only students that participate in the entire course will have a spot in the showcase at the end of the course, however students are welcome to participate in any single class if they do not wish to participate in the showcase.
By purchasing the entire course package at once you save $40. Class sizes are limited to 12 people, must be 21+.
3/2/17 7pm-8pm – Week 1 – Intro to Burlesque
In this class we will cover some basics, including important tips and tricks every showgirl should know, how to choose your burlesque name & how to get involved with the burlesque community.
3/9/17 7pm-8pm Week 2 – Choreography & Basic Moves
In this class we will cover creating a routine, how to plan your choreography and some sultry crowd pleasing moves you can incorporate.
3/16/17 7pm-8pm Week 3 – Poise & Pose
In this class we will help you find your performer confidence with tips on stage presence, crowd interaction & movement. We will also cover poise and posing useful on stage and in front of the camera.
3/23/17 7pm-8pm Week 4 – Hair & Makeup
In this class we will teach you some hair styling and makeup tips to help you create that perfect showgirl stage ready look!
3/30/17 7pm-8pm Week 5 – Costuming
In this class we will cover costuming tips and tricks, different clothing removal methods, construction and embellishment methods, how to choose your costume pieces to best tell your story and more. (plus how to adhere pasties which you will need in the next class)
4/6/17 7pm-8pm Week 6 – Stockings & Tassels
In this class we will teach you the how to’s of, feather boas, glove & stocking peels and how to incorporate props into your routine. And get out those pasties because we will be teaching you how to twirl your tassles!
Bring: Elbow Gloves, A Feather Boa & Pasties w/ Tassels (these can just be practice props you do not have to bring what you would actually wear on stage)
4/13/17 7pm-8pm Week 7 – The Business of Burlesque
In this class we will cover how to market yourself as a burlesque performer, how to get booked for shows, burlesque etiquette, how to write a bio and an act intro. We will also have a
Q & A session to answer any questions or review anything covered in the course.
4/20/17 7pm-8pm Week 8 – Photo Shoot
This week put those hair, makeup & pose tricks you learned to work! We will be doing performer headshots for each student. Please come dressed and hair & makeup ready.
4/28/17 6:30pm-8pm Week 9 – Friday Night Student Showcase
Time to show off what you’ve learned. In this student showcase you can invite family and friends to watch you make your debut! The student showcase will only be available to students who enrolled in the entire course. Tickets will be available for attendees a few weeks before the actual event. 21+ only
